February Is National Pet Dental Health Month

Filed under Cat Health, Dog Health

February is National Pet Dental Health Month. Dental health for your cat or dog is just as important as it is for you. Take some time this month to make sure your furry friend's oral health is in order.

"Oral disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem for pets," said Dr. Henry Childers, DVM, president of the AVMA. "Just as the public has come to realize that their own oral health is linked to their overall health, veterinarians want people to understand that dental health care is essential to maintaining the overall health and well-being of the family pet."

I got my cat's teeth cleaned last year but it was so traumatic for him to go to the vet, be put under, and all of that. I wish there was an easier way.

My vet just informed me that our 3 year old Persian cat is allergic to his own teeth. He gave him a cortizone shot to see what it does for him in 3 weeks.
He also prescribed Coenzyme Q10 to be given once a day.

He says that even if you clean the teeth, it will keep coming back. If I recall correctly, he did have them cleaned once by another vet a long time ago. We talked about extracting teeth that had severe red around them.

Marshmallow is also traumatized by going to the vet and I also fear the whole surgical cleaning process!

hey, i know this post is from a year ago, but as February is only a week away, it's definitely relevant! I'm a huge dog lover myself and am organizing a Pet Dental Health Month awareness campaign through my local SPCA. I'm very passionate about this - just as the state of a person's teeth can cause many other seemingly unrelated health problems, so can a dog's teeth! My black lab was constantly at the vet's office, and my vet mentioned that it could be her teeth. Besides taking my dog in for routine cleanings, I also found out powder, natural dog supplements may help a dog's teeth. I started giving my dog supplements from www.K9HealthSolutions.com. It's a cool site with a lot of resources, check it out at http://www.k9healthsolutions.com/natural-dog-vitamins.html .

For keeping my dog's mouth in healthy and hygiene, I am using proper brushing in both morning and night. It is really a pet...

To clean my pet's teeth I buy dental supplies from http://www.entirelypets.com/
They have everything I need from CET dental chews to oral cleansing solutions.
